What is Freestream?
FREESTREAM is a Live Streaming and Hardware Development company. We have one focus: to create devices that allow content creators to monitor and live stream from all types of cameras affordably. FREESTREAM empowers filmmakers to do more with their cameras than ever before.
What is the difference between Freestream and other video transmitters?
We made FREESTREAM to be affordable for all. Our signal distance is outstanding, allowing you to transmit from your camera up to 500 meters away to your receiver. You can customize your transmission quality through our application, as well as live stream to social platforms.
How much will Freestream cost after Kickstarter?
Our goal is to keep the price low even after launch and stay within the same price range we are offering through Kickstarter in order to lower the barrier of entry for all filmmakers. The benefit to supporting us today is early access to FREESTREAM and other promotions.
How long does the Freestream system take to set up?
Almost no time at all! From set up to monitoring takes about 2 minutes, depending how quickly you can move your fingers. Live streaming (if you’ve activated your social media accounts to stream) is just as fast.
Is Freestream "real time" or is there lag?
There might be a small delay (<200M) depending on signal quality. It’s virtually real time for production monitoring. From starting your live stream to it broadcasting on your social platform can take up to 30 seconds, but this delay is on the live streaming platforms' end.
How does the Freestream receiver connect to my devices?
Our receiver is Wi-Fi enabled so you can connect through your iOS devices’ Wi-Fi. If you are using our Professional or Universal versions, you can also connect to any monitor via HDMI.
Can I connect multiple monitors to Freestream?
You can connect multiple monitors if you have an HDMI splitter. You can also have one of our receivers connected to up to 4 different iOS devices.
Why just iOS? Will you support Android?
At the moment, hardware and power restrictions make this an iOS-only device. But that means you can use an iPhone or an iPad. That’s not too shabby! We hope to release an Android friendly device in the future to get our technology in the hands of as many filmmakers and content creators as possible.
Is Freestream waterproof?
Technically, no. However, all of our devices are water resistant, so you shouldn't be afraid of throwing our transmitters on your snowboard.
What platforms can you live stream with?
Currently our beta application allows live streaming to Youtube and Facebook. Our app is still in development and will be until we ship. We hope that we will be able to offer even more platforms by the end of summer.
Does my video save somewhere?
You can record footage directly to your camera's memory card, but our application also allows for you to record dailies and photos. If you are live streaming, the video should also be saved on your social platform. That means you can be recording high quality video to your camera as well as live streaming it, opening up a ton of possibilities to promote content. Pretty rad right?
Who is CVW and what is your relationship with them?
How will you handle defective units?
In the unlikely circumstance of any broken units, you will be able to ship to our headquarters in Los Angeles (paid postage provided of course), and we will send you a replacement unit at no cost to you as soon as we receive the defective unit. We want to make your experience with FREESTREAM amazing.
Is your in-house team developing the software and firmware updates?
We are working with freelance designers and software developers to create our application. CVW has helped us in this process by making one of the first applications that worked with our product. We will be handling all software updates with our app developers to ensure you always have an app that works. Our goal over the next few months is to continue to perfect our application so, you, the customer, have a working product on day one.
Can I connect more than one Freestream transmitter to a Freestream receiver or vice versa?
You can connect one transmitter to multiple receivers by selecting the same frequency channel. This will allow you to view footage on up to 8 iOS Devices as well as multiple monitors. Alternatively, you can connect more than one transmitter to one receiver by also selecting the same channel, but note that you will only be able to view one camera at a time through the receiver.
What is the bit rate?
You have the option to choose a range between 220kbps - 8mbps through our application.
Will you include HDSDI/BNC?
We are currently working on a future version that will support HDSDI/BNC.
